Measuring the impact of research - the context for metric development

In light of ERA and increasing attempts to measure academic research, the Go8 has produced a useful background document. This backgrounder looks at a variety of methods of measuring the impact of research. The paper also argues that while measuring the impact of research is necessary, it is important to use the results of such evaluations with care.
